How to use the wheel of names
- 1Type or paste your entries into the Entries box, one per line. The wheel updates as you type.
- 2Press the SPIN button in the middle of the wheel, click the wheel itself, or press the Space key.
- 3Watch the wheel slow down. The entry under the pointer at the top is your result.
- 4Choose what happens next: close the result, remove that entry from the wheel, or spin again.
- 5Need several winners? Open Pick winners, choose how many, and press Draw winners. You can also import names from a .txt or .csv file there.
- 6Open Settings to change the theme, spin time, celebration, sounds and music, or add your own background picture.
One spinner for every kind of decision
This is the all-purpose wheel: whatever you type in, it can spin. Put in names, places, prizes, chores or movie titles, and let chance decide. It's quick to set up, fun to watch, and gives everyone in the room a clear, visible result.
Popular ways to use it
- Giveaways and raffles: paste your entrants, spin on stream, and turn on "Remove winner automatically" to draw second and third place.
- Family decisions: who picks the movie, who washes up, where to go on Saturday.
- Meetings: choose who speaks first at stand-up, or which topic to tackle next.
- Games and parties: make your own challenge wheel, trivia categories or forfeits.
- Everyday choices: any time you're stuck between options, the wheel breaks the tie.
Need something more specific? There are ready-made wheels for picking students, yes or no answers, numbers, teams and more, each with its own extra tools.
Random name picker: one name or several winners
The wheel is also a complete random name picker. Spin to choose one person, or open the Pick winners tab when you need more than one:
- Draw several winners at once, in order, for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
- No repeats: switch on Remove winners from the wheel, so nobody is picked twice.
- Import names from a .txt file or the first column of a .csv file, such as a class list or a sign-up sheet export.
- Keep a record: every pick is saved with its time in the Results tab, ready to download as a spreadsheet.
Giveaway tips
Export your entrants, press Remove duplicates to catch anyone who entered twice, and draw your winners live on screen so your audience can see it's fair. If a winner doesn't reply, draw again: people already picked are off the list. The names you enter stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
Make the wheel your own
Every part of the wheel can be changed in the Settings tab:
- 12 themes, from Bright & Playful and Ocean to Neon Night, Galaxy, Halloween and Christmas. Each one changes the page and the wheel colors together.
- Your own background picture, which stays on your device.
- Celebrations when the wheel stops: confetti, fireworks, shooting stars, emoji rain or balloons.
- Sound effects and music: five sound packs, four spin tracks and a volume control. Everything can be switched off.
- Spin time from 2 to 20 seconds, and an optional slow idle turn.
Is the wheel fair?
Yes. When you press Spin, the result is chosen before the wheel starts moving, using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (the same kind of randomness used for security keys). The animation then simply lands on that result.
That means every entry has exactly the chance its slice size gives it: with 8 equal slices, each one has a 1 in 8 chance, every spin. Past results don't affect future spins, the speed you click doesn't matter, and nobody, including us, can steer the outcome.
We check this with automated tests that run 100,000 simulated spins and confirm every entry comes up as often as it should, within a tiny margin.
Frequently asked questions
What is a wheel of names?
A wheel of names is an online spinner that picks one entry at random from a list. You add names or choices, spin, and the wheel stops on a result, just like a prize wheel at a fair.
How many entries can I put on the wheel?
Up to 1,000 entries. With a lot of entries the slices get very thin, so the names may be too small to print on the wheel, but the result is always shown in large text when the wheel stops.
Will my wheel still be here when I come back?
Yes. Your entries, settings and results are saved automatically in your own browser on this device. Nothing is sent to us, and you don't need an account.
Can I share my wheel with someone else?
Yes. Press Share to copy a link. Anyone who opens it gets their own copy of your wheel, with the same entries, theme and settings, which they can change without affecting yours.
Can I make some entries more likely to win?
Yes. Open Slice sizes under the Entries box and give an entry a bigger size. A size of 3 takes up three times as much of the wheel and is three times as likely to be picked as an entry with size 1.
How do I pick more than one name at a time?
Open the Pick winners tab, enter how many winners you need, and press Draw winners. The names are drawn one after another without repeats, exactly as if you spun several times and removed each winner.
Can I import a list of names from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Save or download your sheet as a .csv file and import it in the Pick winners tab. Names are read from the first column. You can also copy a column and paste it straight into the Entries box.
Does the wheel work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The wheel works in any modern browser on phones, tablets, laptops and big screens. Use Full screen mode to show it on a projector or a live stream.
