How to use the random number wheel

  1. 1Open the Numbers tab and enter where the range starts and ends, for example 1 to 100.
  2. 2Optionally set a step: a step of 5 gives 5, 10, 15 and so on.
  3. 3Press Make number wheel. The wheel fills with every number in your range.
  4. 4Press SPIN to pick a number.
  5. 5Switch on No repeats to take each number off the wheel after it comes up, like a bingo draw.

A number generator you can watch

A random number generator usually just prints a number. A number wheel shows everyone the draw happening, which makes it more exciting and easier to trust when you're picking a raffle ticket, a page number or the next player.

Ways to use the number wheel

  • Raffles: put in your ticket numbers and draw winners live.
  • Classroom: choose a question number, a page to read, or a times table to practise.
  • Games: replace dice, pick how many steps to move, or choose a level.
  • Fitness: spin how many reps or minutes to do next.
  • Seating and turns: give everyone a number and spin to choose the order.

Common ranges

Popular choices are 1-10 for quick games, 1-6 to replace a die, 1-20 for tabletop games, 1-75 for bingo and 1-100 for raffles. Make each one in a couple of seconds with the Numbers tab.

Every number gets an equal chance

Each number on the wheel takes up exactly the same amount of space, so each has exactly the same chance of being picked. On a 1 to 100 wheel, every number has a 1 in 100 chance on every spin, no matter what came up before. A number that just appeared is no more and no less likely to appear again, which is how true randomness works.

If you want a draw where numbers can't come up twice, switch on No repeats. The wheel then works like pulling numbered balls out of a bag: each spin removes the number it lands on, and the odds for the remaining numbers grow as the wheel gets smaller. When you're done, use Undo in the Entries tab or press Make number wheel again to put every number back.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?

Open the Numbers tab, type 1 in From and 100 in To, keep the step at 1, and press Make number wheel. Then spin.

How big can the number range be?

A wheel can hold up to 1,000 numbers at once, and the numbers can be anywhere between minus one million and one million. For wider ranges, use a bigger step.

Can I use the number wheel for bingo or raffle tickets?

Yes. Make a wheel with your ticket or bingo numbers and switch on No repeats. Each number drawn is removed, and the Results tab keeps a record of every number in order.

Can I include negative numbers?

Yes. For example, From -10 To 10 gives every whole number from minus ten to ten, including zero.
